I was going to do a name post tonight too... great minds and all that...

Not Gilbert Nooooo! - that nasty uncle was called Gilbert... yuck...

Malachi and Valentine were/are on our boy list too (although I was worried about initials being VD :o) but I love them.

Ziggy I love but is the name of my step sisters dog...

Love Rafferty, Stanley, Arthur, Archie and Flynn... oooh and Harry.

Ryder reminds me of golf, Jared reminds me of an evil man off a reality TV show (but can't remember which one) although he was the hunk in SATC...

Ooh, love Caleb too...

PS Yep, massive num nums now :o)

my friend has a Stanley Arthur and my in-laws giggled at it a bit but I LOVE it. I would have def had both of those names if I'd been allowed.

Ryder is Kate Hudsons boy
Rafferty is Jude and Sadies boy
Flynn is melinda Messengers son

(can you tell how debilitating my gossip magazine addiction is yet??)

I think Raff is such a cool shortened version.

Oscar and Stan go sooo well togther though!

Caleb and Malachi are the ones I like from that (V long!) list, Gabriel is G Jude.
I need a name book, I read the whole way through one and didn't find a SINGLE name that appealed for my own bundle. It's sooo tough! Good luck choosing!

Are you into your 3rd trimester now? I can't keep up!

I have to admit to liking only normal, non eyebrow raising, good old fashioned boys names and a lot of these names make me raise my eyebrows. You call that boy Haley and I will kidnap him and re name him myself! I love Ethan, I think Ethan Edwards has a real ring to it, very film starrish, you can imagine his name up in lights at the Odeon Leicester Square. ALso like Joel which is my nephew's name, Nicholas is my dad's name and Daniel well of course I have a Daniel and it's my all time favourite boys name and anyone who chooses it has exceptionally good taste. Like Joseph too, as well as Charlie and Harry. Cameron was very popular in the 90s, my son's go to school with a few. Do like Jared as well though, just the last two letters of the first name would be the same as the first two letters of his surname!

Your choice in the end but Ethan Edwards is definitely my firm fave.

What a list!
Like: Benedict, Casper, Joseph, Jude, Kit, Timothy, Tobias (mine in reserve), Tristan (love it!)

Hesitant over: Archer (makes me think of Jeffrey), Caleb (bad TV connotations), Ethan - lovely name but so popular now....

Though like Al, I do like the non-eyebrow rising typer names....

Hey - how about an update picture of you? love the vids of Oz, but lets see how lovely and pregnant mummy is now
;-). Love Ux

Firstly...COOL BED OZ!!! Has he managed to stay in it without falling out in the middle of the night? We were given a similar bed, with slide but were a bit apprehensive about putting him in it for fear of him falling 4 ft to the ground! lol.
As for names - you've got some very original, but not celebrity mental names there. I personally like Byron, all your C names, Dominic, Ethan (please no Gilbert...Dh's middle name...he hates it) Harry, Jay, Joel, ooooh...loads, you've got fab taste.

Hmm. I can rule some out, at least from my tastes. Any boy called Haley, Laurie, Lysander, Malachi, Tristan or Valentine will get teased mercilessly at school. Caspar is a friendly ghost, not my nephew. Braedon is just asking for a lifetime of mis-spelling; Inigo will hate you as soon as he sees Princess Bride.

I do think that you need a "traditional" rather than quirky/celeb name, to go well with Oscar. I like Arthur, Daniel, Dominic, Joel, Kit, Timothy and Tobias or Toby for short. Though I still insist that the only thing that goes with an Oscar is a Tony...

I'm sure you'll have more of a clue when he arrives.

I must admit to being more of a fan of traditional names, too, but I'm trying to think how these sound with your last name and with Oscar...

Daniel, Caleb, Charlie & Tobias are my faves from your list.

Benedict=Much Ado About Nothing
Laurie=Little Women
Gilbert=Anne of Green Gables
Woodrow=Woodrow Wilson, a president about whom I know nothing and neither do most Brits, I would imagine?
Byron=Lord Byron, but he had an awesome sense of humor so that's okay.
Zeke=a horse I once knew

My dad is Timothy Arthur and my brother is Joseph Timothy, so those gets votes as well. Oh, I like Brady, too.

I love names...

Joseph is a good one ;o) I like Stanley, I think that would go lovely with Oscar. I like Jared too. Which ones do you and Rob agree on??? E. x

Wow are these names that you both like? If they are, thats some list, we couldn't find one boys name that we agreed on when I was pg with Looby, good job she was a girl or she would have been nameless!!
Ok, names I like; Archie (not Archer), Arthur, Caleb, Cameron, Charlie, Daniel, Dominic, Joel, Joseph, Jude.
I agree, I think you need a kind of normal name to go with Oscar, I don't think something like Malachi would go.
Archie and Oscar sounds ace imo ;)
Just as an aside, where does Malachi come from because I have seen loads of kids called that now.

Oooh okay this is all my personal opinions so take or leave what you like.....

I like but don't love Archer and Arden.

I like Arthur but it is actually becoming quite popular nowadays.

Avery, Brady, Braedon, Haley and Tyler just sound too American to me, but then I have a thing about that. Basically I like all the names apart from these 5!

Benedict, Byron, Corbin, Nicholas, Rafferty, Tobias and Tristan sound like quite manly, strong names.

Caleb, Charlie, Emmett, Ethan, Frederick, Gilbert, Heath (wot no cliff?), Laurie (would it be Lawrence and then shortened? Love this one by the way!) and Woodrow all sound old-fashioned in a fifties type way and I love them for that!

Cameron, Daniel, Dominic, Gregory, Harry, Joseph and Timothy are alright but a bit straight and sensible for my tastes really.

Casper is just so cute and would be great with Oscar!

Flynn I love! Errol Flynn, say no more!

Inigo, Jared, Jay, Lysander, Malachi, Sylvan, Tate, Tor, Zeke and Ziggy are the crazy arty selection so of course I love these!

Lyndon, Macaulay, Kyle, Kieran and Kit all sound Scottish/Gaelic to me which is cool.

Joel is my brothers name. I always liked it, he said the only problems with it are people always call him Noel or Gerald(?!?). Also not a problem but people often assume he's Jewish.

Ryder I like but it just makes me think of Kate Hudson's kid, sorry.

Jude and Stanley were on our list for Jove. We were put off Jude because of Jude Law sadly. Shame as it is my dad's middle name so would have been nice. Stanley only didn't get used because we fell in love with Jove instead. also on the list for Jove were Sidney, Spencer, Sonny, Jonty and Jasper.

Finally Valentine was nearly Stu's name as he was due Valentine's day! He is glad it wasn't but only because he went to a local comprehensive in the 70's!

I'd say a good way to get the list down is to sit down together and cross off any you don't agree on. then google the rest and see what comes up. You may find associations with names you hadn't thought of that'll put you off them.

Good luck with it! It's a pretty awesome responsibilty naming a child huh!

My blog-reader is super-slow and I just got this post today! Chiming in with my votes anyway. :) I like Archer, Avery (I've loved that name for years, since Murphy Brown used it for her son), Casper, Corbin (my friend PKB's oldest son's middle name), Freddie, Harry, Joel, Jude, Tate (name of an old friend of mine).

No Charlie. That's mine. :) Not that I'll be having another baby. I also have issues with Malachi, only because that's the name of a scary-ass character in "Children of the Corn". I'll get over it if you use it, of course. I don't like Byron, only because I have a stupid aunt and uncle who still think Brian's name is Byron.

Several of the names are really, really common in the US: Caleb, Tyler (one of my cousins), Jared, Ethan, Kyle. How popular are they in the UK?

Off topic, but we've got a belated Halloween card for Oz. Clara Jane watched a show about keeping in touch with far-off friends, which prompted us to talk about Oscar. We bought the card, she decorated it, and it still sits on my desk.
